Nutrition Programs
Helping Seniors Stay Healthy, Connected, and Well-Nourished
At Washoe County Senior Services, we are dedicated to helping older adults live healthy, active, and fulfilling lives. Our programs support independence, encourage social connections, and provide access to vital resources. From nutritious meals to enriching activities, we strive to ensure that every senior has the tools and support needed to thrive in their community.
Why Nutrition Matters
Proper nutrition helps seniors maintain energy, independence, and overall health. These programs also reduce isolation by providing social connection and engagement opportunities, giving seniors a chance to build friendships, participate in activities, and stay actively involved in their community. Access to regular, well-balanced meals supports chronic disease management, strengthens the immune system, and promotes mental well-being. By combining nutrition with social interaction, Senior Nutrition Programs help older adults live fuller, healthier, and more connected lives.
Lunch Program
Building community one meal at a time.
Our Lunch (also known as Congregate Meals) Program is much more than just a lunchtime stop, it’s a place where seniors come together to share stories, laughter, and friendship. In a warm and welcoming environment, participants enjoy nutritious meals while connecting with neighbors and forming meaningful social bonds. These shared experiences help reduce isolation, foster a sense of belonging, and enhance overall well-being.
Meals are carefully prepared to provide balanced nutrition, supporting energy, health, and wellness. Each location offers a friendly atmosphere where seniors can participate in conversation, recreational activities, and occasional special events, making every visit a chance to engage with the community. The program encourages seniors to remain active, involved, and connected, turning each meal into an opportunity for connection, personal enrichment, and joy.
Meals on Wheels
Nutrition and care delivered to your doorstep.
For seniors who are unable to attend group meal sites due to illness, injury, or mobility challenges, our Meals on Wheels (also known as Home Delivered Meals) program ensures that no one goes without access to nutritious, wholesome meals. Each delivery brings more than just food, it delivers independence, comfort, and peace of mind.
Meals are thoughtfully prepared to meet dietary guidelines and support overall health, providing a variety of balanced options tailored to seniors’ nutritional needs. In addition to nourishing the body, this program offers regular contact and connection, helping seniors feel supported and cared for in the comfort of their own homes. Whether it’s a hot meal to enjoy immediately or frozen meals to store for the week, Home Delivered Meals helps maintain health, routine, and dignity, while reducing the stress of meal preparation for those facing daily challenges.
