Group Home Assistance

Providing Care and Comfort for Vulnerable Adults

The Group Home Assistance program, offered by the Washoe County Human Services Agency (HSA), helps adults facing homelessness and long-term medical limitations access safe, stable housing. Designed for individuals who are unable to reside in traditional shelters due to disability or health conditions, this program provides essential support through room and board assistance, helping participants live with dignity and stability.

By covering basic living costs and coordinating financial contributions, the program ensures participants receive the care they need in a supportive group home environment.

How We Support Participants

Room and Board Coverage: The Adult Group Home Assistance program helps cover the cost of housing and daily living needs in approved group home settings, offering participants a secure and stable place to live.

Financial Coordination: Participant income is coordinated with the facility to directly contribute to the cost of care.

Resident Support: HSA ensures individuals receive appropriate housing and supportive services in a safe, stable environment.

Who Can Participate

To qualify for Group Home Assistance, individuals must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Age 18–64

  • Experiencing homelessness and unable to reside in a shelter due to long-term medical or disability-related limitations

  • Washoe County resident, as defined by Nevada Revised Statutes (NRS) 428.020

  • Meet income and household-size eligibility requirements

Residency is determined by presence and intent to remain in Washoe County. Individuals in institutional care are considered residents of the county they lived in prior to placement.

Financial Responsibility

Participants approved for assistance must contribute all of their monthly income, except for a $158 personal allowance toward the cost of care. These payments are made directly to the facility, ensuring financial stability for both residents and providers.

How to Apply

Individuals interested in Group Home Assistance can apply by completing the Adult Group Home Referral Form. Applications are carefully reviewed to determine eligibility based on medical, financial, and residency requirements. Applicants may be asked to provide documentation of income, medical limitations, and their current living situation. Staff are available to assist throughout the process and answer any questions.
