Meals on Wheels

Nutrition & Care Delivered to Your Doorstep

Meals on Wheels, also known as the Home Delivered Meals program, offers more than just nutritious food, it provides independence, safety, and peace of mind for homebound seniors. Designed for older adults who are unable to attend a congregate meal site due to illness, disability, or mobility limitations, this program delivers nourishing meals directly to participants’ homes, supporting both physical health and emotional well-being.

Each delivery not only brings a balanced, dietitian-approved meal but also a friendly visit and a wellness check, helping reduce isolation and ensuring seniors remain connected to their community.

How We Support Participants

Nutritious Meals: Meals are prepared to meet dietary guidelines, offering hot and frozen options tailored to seniors’ nutritional needs. Emergency shelf-stable meals are also available during extreme weather or service interruptions.

Personal Connection: Regular visits offer a comforting presence, reduce loneliness, and provide a safety check to promote overall well-being.

Independence at Home: By delivering meals to the door, seniors can remain safely at home while maintaining their health and dignity.

Who Can Participate

The Meals on Wheels program is open to individuals who meet all of the following criteria:

  • Age 60 or older

  • Homebound due to illness, disability, or geographic isolation

  • Unable to attend a congregate meal site

Eligibility is confirmed during an in-home visit by Washoe County Senior Services staff. Recertification is required periodically to ensure continued eligibility and appropriate use of program resources.

Meal Options & Delivery

Eligible participants receive up to seven meals per week, including:

  • One hot meal on their delivery day

  • Up to six frozen meals for the rest of the week

Some individuals may qualify for an additional daily meal, bringing the total to 14 meals per week. All meals are designed to support nutrition, energy, and wellness.
