Statement from the Washoe County District Attorney’s Office on the Death of The Honorable Larry Hicks

The men and women of the Washoe County District Attorney’s Office offer our deepest condolences to the Hicks family as they navigate the tragic loss of an extraordinary man. He served this community with honor for decades and led this office from 1974 to 1978. Most importantly, he was the heart and soul of his family, and we know he was a hero to our District Attorney.

The Honorable Judge Larry R. Hicks was not only a pillar within our community, but for those who loved him as well. His career was filled with incredible accomplishments and deserving accolades. Most importantly to him, he was a proud family man to his wife, children, grandchildren, and entire family.

Judge Hicks was the consummate professional and a brilliant jurist – a man to be admired. Many of us were fortunate enough to have known him personally and professionally, and he will always be remembered for the wonderful man that he was and the legacy he leaves behind.

“Judge, we know you are smiling down on us from somewhere beautiful, wanting us all to know that everything will be okay. We know that home meant Nevada for you like it does for us. And we can’t quite shake the notion that we may still find you in the quiet of our desert hillsides, in the sagebrush on the hunting trails you walked, over Lake Tahoe on a peaceful morning, in the shimmering sunlight of a late afternoon fishing on the Truckee when the Rainbows rise, or in the silent glow of the streetlights in an evening snowstorm. Maybe if our yesterdays had not been so wonderful, this would not be so hard to accept. But they were. This community thanks you for the time we got. We will keep it with us now that you’re gone. We only wish we had more tomorrows together,” – members of the WCDA.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Hicks family, and we will do all that we can to support them during this difficult time.  We ask that any flowers, cards, and the like that the community would like to share with the Hicks family be delivered to our office at 1 S. Sierra St., and we will get them delivered.
