Lunch Program

Building Community One Meal at a Time

The Lunch Program, also known as Congregate Meals, offers more than just a nutritious meal. It provides a welcoming space where older adults come together to enjoy food, connect with others, and build lasting friendships. In a warm and friendly environment, participants share stories, laughter, and companionship while engaging in activities that promote overall health and well-being.

Each meal is thoughtfully prepared to support energy, nutrition, and wellness. Participants can enjoy their meals on-site or take them to go, and many locations offer opportunities for recreation, conversation, and special events that enrich the day and reduce social isolation.

How We Support Participants

Nutritious Meals: Balanced meals are served Monday through Friday at nine senior meal locations, supporting overall health and energy.

Social Connection: Shared mealtimes encourage conversation, build friendships, and foster a sense of community and belonging.

Recreation and Engagement: Many sites offer group activities, entertainment, and events that help participants stay active and connected.

Who Can Participate

The Lunch Program is open to individuals who meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • Age 60 or older
  • Spouse of an individual aged 60 or older
  • Person with a disability living with an eligible senior
  • Volunteer providing services during meal hours

Individuals under 60 with disabilities who live in senior-focused housing with a meal site may also be eligible.

Meal Options and Contributions

Participants may choose between a hot meal or a fresh salad. To request a salad, sign up in person or by phone at your desired location by 8:30 AM.

  • Suggested voluntary contribution for eligible participants: $2 per meal
  • Meal cost for non-eligible individuals under 60: $4 per meal

Meal reservations are required for all sites, except for the Washoe County Senior Center (9th Street location), and must be made by 8:30 AM on the day you wish to attend.
