Ensuring Access to Vital Support for Children, Adults and Seniors

The Washoe County Human Services Agency (HSA) Eligibility team provides highly detailed and accurate assessments for clients and families, ensuring they can access and maintain federal, state, and local funding for essential services. Their careful work supports the delivery of critical resources that improve the health, safety, and well-being of the community.

How We Support HSA Programs

Comprehensive Assessments: Eligibility staff perform complex and detailed evaluations to determine the support and services each client qualifies for. This includes reviewing all available resources to ensure families and individuals receive the maximum benefits possible.

Accessing Federal and State Benefits: The team helps clients navigate programs such as TANF, Medicaid, and other federal, state, and local benefit options. Their efforts ensure access to food, shelter, medical care, mental health support, addiction recovery services, and assistance with burial or cremation costs.

Meticulous and Manual Process: Eligibility determinations are highly detailed and require careful attention to documentation and compliance. Staff invest significant effort to make sure every resource is considered, maximizing the support available for each client.

High Volume, High Impact: On average, the Eligibility team processes over 2,500 determinations each year, providing critical support to children, adults, and seniors throughout Washoe County.

Strengthening the Agency

HSA clients, programs, and staff all depend on the Eligibility team. By ensuring that every individual and family can access the resources they need, Eligibility staff play a central role in helping the agency fulfill its mission of supporting the community’s most vulnerable populations.
