Providing Care and Comfort for Vulnerable Adults

The Washoe County Human Services Agency (HSA) provides Group Home Assistance to help cover “Room and Board” costs for individuals ages 18–64 only who are experiencing homelessness and cannot reside in a shelter due to long-term medical limitations, including long-term disability. The program supports eligible residents in maintaining safe, stable housing while addressing their unique needs.

Services & Support

Room and Board Assistance: HSA covers housing and daily living costs for eligible participants.

Financial Oversight: Participant income is coordinated with the facility to directly contribute to the cost of care.

Resident Support: HSA ensures individuals receive appropriate housing and supportive services in a safe, stable environment.

Eligibility

Individuals must meet the following requirements to qualify for assistance:

Age: 18–64 years old.

Housing Need: Homelessness and inability to reside in a shelter due to long-term medical limitations.

Residency: Must be a Washoe County resident, as defined by Nevada Revised Statutes (NRS) 428.020: “The county of residence of a person is the county in which the person is physically present with the intent to reside, at least for an indefinite period. The county of residence of a person placed in institutional care is the county of residence of that person before the person was placed in institutional care.”

Financial and Non-Financial Requirements: Must meet income and household-size criteria established for the program.

Financial Responsibility

If an individual accepts County assistance, all of their monthly income—minus a $158 personal allowance, is applied toward the cost of care and paid directly to the facility. This ensures sustainable support while preserving a small personal allowance for the resident.
