Besides my volunteer work, and Board responsibilities, I am currently working full-time for a governmental entity as a Planning Technician.
Government Background:
Was one of two candidates considered for appointment to the vacant Ward 3 seat in 2018. Ran for Ward 3 in 2020. Public Servant for over 30 years. Experience includes: State of Nevada: Accounting, Eligibility, Audit, Grant Administration, and Employment and Training. Washoe County: Managing a Community Resource Center, Community Outreach Coordinator assigned to Community Relations assisting with elections, Assistant to County Commission and Community Services Department, and Library as the Public Information and Development Officer overseeing grants, marketing, media and fundraising. Currently, working as a Planning Technician for a Planning Division. Have served as President/ Board member for government worker associations. Served 10 years as an appointee to the Sparks Parks and Rec Commission (term limited 2024) and (9 years as Chair). Served as the Mayor's appointment in 2023 on the Sparks CAC. Participated in the state legislative process during my tenure as a public servant.
Reason for seeking position:
I am running for Sparks City Council, Ward 3 because:
I am not a politician; I am a concerned long-time resident, who loves Sparks. I have a vested interest in positively shaping our great city to ensure a better quality of life for all. Sparks needs strong, effective leaders.
I am dedicated to reaching out to every corner of our community. I understand the issues impacting the daily lives of our neighbors, our city, and our region. I will listen to the concerns, hopes, and ideas of all our residents. I will advocate for the rights and interests of all members of our community.
I will connect with residents and promote open and transparent communication. I recognize that real change happens when we work together. I am committed to establishing and enhancing strong partnerships with local organizations, business leaders, and other governmental entities to address our shared challenges and enhance opportunities for growth and progress.
As an effective decision maker, I will ethically serve the public’s best interest. I possess integrity, honesty, accountability, fairness, and fiscal responsibility. Local government is about making open, transparent, fair decisions that will positively impact the daily lives of our residents, for generations to come.
I will continue to be a supporter and advocate for our current and retired military, ensuring that they have the resources and the care they need. I would work to expand veteran and senior programs and services.
Public safety is always the number one concern of residents and will be a top priority for me. I will work to expand funding and resources for all those who selflessly protect and defend our community.
I will foster economic growth by promoting and enhancing opportunities for small businesses to thrive and help attract new industries. I will invest in infrastructure that keeps pace with growth. Funding enhancements for roads, police and fire, expanding services and programs should not entirely fall on the shoulders of the local taxpayer. I will help to secure other funding opportunities and grants that may be available to help our failing infrastructure and ever-growing population. I will advance affordable housing initiatives and implement community programs that enhance the quality of life for all residents. I will prioritize strong governance with clear, fiscally responsible guidance in the development of the City’s annual budget.
I will effectively coordinate decisions and efforts between the city, and other local and regional decision-making entities. I will encourage, strengthen, and enhance community engagement opportunities that affect our area.
Residents need to know that their voice has been heard. My vision is one of transparency, inclusivity, sustainability, and progress. Together, we can create a brighter future for Sparks that reflects the values and aspirations of each and every one of us.
