  • Individuals who are seeking the party nomination of President of the United States for the Democratic or Republican Party must file with the Secretary of State during this period.

November 8, 2023

Voter List Maintenance End (52 U.S.C. 20507(c)(2))

  • The National Voter Registration Act requires that any program for list maintenance of the voter registration list must be completed by this date. This deadline applies to verification activities including general mailings.

December 8, 2023

Mail Ballot Op-Out Deadline (NRS 293.269911)

  • Requests to opt-out of receiving a mail-in ballot must be received no later than 60 days before Election Day.
  • Those received after the deadline will be applied to all future elections.

December 19, 2023

Presentation of Early Voting Locations of Vote Centers (NRS 293.3561)

  • Board of County Commissioners be informed of Early Voting locations.
  • Must have final list of Election Day Vote Centers, these locations are not required to be presented to Board of County Commissioners.

Military and Overseas Ballots (NRS 293D.320)

  • The Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act and voters who are eligible under that law are to have ballots delivered to them no later than 45 days before Election Day.
  • Covered voters who have selected Democratic or Republican as their party affiliation will receive ballots.
  • Covered voters who are registered as nonpartisan, or a minor political party will not receive a ballot as this is a closed election for the two major parties only.

  • Ballots to be mailed to active voters who a registered with a party affiliation of Democratic or Republican and are having their mail ballots delivered to them out of state (not out of country) will be mailed by this date, no later than 40 days before the election.

Judicial Candidate Filing (NRS 293.177)

  • Individuals seeking office for a judicial office will file a Declaration of Candidacy with the appropriate filing office (depends on office sought) during this period.
  • Candidates who change their mind have until January 23, 2024 to withdraw their candidacy.

January 3, 2024

Sample Ballots Mailed to Voters and Posted Online

  • Sample Ballots will be mailed to active registered voters who have selected Democratic or Republican for their party affiliation. Active registered voters who are nonpartisan or have selected a minor party will not receive a sample ballot.
  • Active registered voters who have a party affiliation of Democratic or Republican and have opted out of a paper sample ballot will receive notice that sample ballot materials are available online.

Close of Standard Voter Registration (NRS 293.560)

  • Voter Registration that would be conducted by mailing or in-person to include Automatic Voter Registration, Voter Registration Drives or in-office delivery will be closed. This means that registrations received will not be processed but rather held until the election has concluded.

January 10-23, 2024

Extended Online Voter Registration    (NRS 293.560 & NRS 293.5837)

  • Qualified applicants who have not registered to vote may do so online through the Secretary of State website RegisterToVote.NV.gov if they have a valid Nevada Driver's License or a Nevada DMV issues Identification Card. Those who register online during this period will receive a mail ballot or may vote in person during early voting or on Election Day.

  • Active Registered Voters who are registered as Democratic or Republican will receive mail ballots unless they have opted-out before December 8, 2023.

  • Early Voting for the Presidential Preference Primary will occur for 7 days. This is a closed election and voters who are registered with a political party affiliation of Democratic or Republican are eligible to vote.
  • Voters can update their registration at Vote Centers if necessary to be able to vote.

February 6, 2024

  • Vote Centers will be open from 7 AM to 7 PM and all voters in line by 7 PM will be allowed to vote.
  • For major parties (Democratic and Republican) if they have more than one (1) candidate to determine their candidate for the party process of determining the party candidate for the General Election.

February 9, 2024

Deadline to Cure Provisional Ballots    (NRS 293.3082)

  • Deadline for voters who need to bring their ID to the Registrar of Voters Office for the provisional ballot to be cast.
  • Must be provided no later than 5PM on the Friday following election day.

  • Ballots delivered in person must be received by Election Day at 7:00PM. Ballots sent through the mail using USPS must be received by 5PM on the 4th day following the election and must be postmarked on or before Election Day to be counted.

Deadline to Cure Signature Challenged Ballots (NRS 293.269927)

  • Mail ballots that have been challenged due to signature verification issues (either the ballot was not signed, or the signature does not match the voter signature on file) must be cured by the sixth (6) day after the election.
  • Ballots can be cured in person, over the phone, returning correspondence or through mobile app by 5PM.

February 16, 2024

Deadline for the County to Canvass the Vote (NRS 293.387)

  • On or before the 10th day after the election the Board of County Commissioners MUST canvass the vote.

March 4-15, 2024

Candidate Filing – Non-Judicial (NRS 293.177)

  • Individuals seeking office for a non-judicial office will file a declaration of candidacy with the appropriate filing office (depends on office sought) during this period.
  • Minor Political Party Candidate List are submitted to the Secretary of State and only those candidates may file for a declaration for those minor political parties. (NRS 293.1725)
  • Independent Candidates will file a Declaration of Candidacy during this period but must collect and submit the appropriate number of qualified signatures in order to be qualified to be on the General Election ballot. (NRS 293.200)
  • Candidates who change their mind have until March 26, 2024 to withdraw their candidacy.

March 13, 2024

  • Early Voting begins the 3rd Saturday preceding the election and extends through the Friday before election day. This is a closed primary election meaning the political party affiliation of the voter determines if they receive a Democratic, Republican or Nonpartisan ballot.
  • Voters can update their registration at Vote Centers if necessary to receive a correct ballot type.
