Filing a Report or Complaint

The Office of the Registrar of Voters oversees voter registration and administers elections for all of Washoe County, Nevada. We facilitate and process voter registrations, address updates and corrections to existing registered voters, and perform routine list maintenance in accordance with Federal Law (the National Voter Registration Act and the Help America Vote Act) and State Law (NRS 293.530). In addition, we administer all Federal, State and Local elections for Washoe County. Our responsibility is to ensure that all elections are run efficiently, accurately, and transparently and to provide that our voters have the utmost confidence that their vote is protected and counted.

General Complaints

In order to fulfill these objectives, we have developed a process for reporting and filing concerns or complaints with our office. Reports/Complaints may be submitted to the Office of the Registrar of Voters by conventional mail, email, facsimile or hand delivery. The Report/Complaint must set forth the situation at issue, as well as the dates and times of specific occurrences. Upon receipt by our office, the Report/Complaint will be assigned, as soon as practicable, to an appropriate staff member to begin the resolution process. The individual submitting the report/complaint may be contacted by our office to provide further information.

Our office will review the Report/Complaint and take actions to ensure that the issue is addressed and the voters of Washoe County have access to and are able to register to vote and cast their ballot for each election for which they are eligible. The actions taken by the Office of the Washoe County Registrar of Voters, or the referral of the Report/Complaint to another agency will depend on the disposition of the Report/Complaint and will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Upon resolution by our office, the complainant will be notified of the actions taken by our office.

Reporting Potential Election Law Violations in Nevada

The Office of the Nevada Secretary of State is responsible for oversight of all elections in the State of Nevada, including the investigation of alleged violations of Election Laws (Title 24 of the Nevada Revised Statutes).  As such, any report/complaint involving allegations of Election Law violations will be forwarded to the Office of the Secretary of State and the complainant will be informed of this action. However, the Office of the Secretary of State requires a written formal complaint from the person filing the report to initiate the resolution process.
