Smoky Skies and Citizen Science
Join us on October 5th from 6pm-7:30pm for a free educational talk co-hosted by the Wilbur D. May Arboretum and the Desert Research Institute. We will gather in the Ranch House at Rancho San Rafael, 1595 N. Sierra St.
Learn about local research that aims to strengthen our understanding of wildfires as presenters from the Desert Research Institute discuss two ongoing wildfire science studies including a citizen science opportunity. Researchers will explain how we can improve tools for predicting impact on human health and atmospheric conditions by studying the size distribution of particles in the air on days impacted by wildfire emissions. Your observational skills can also shed light on wildfires’ behavior; learn how community members help researchers improve analyses of wildfire smoke plumes by submitting photos of ash to Ashfall Citizen Science.
This talk is created for a general, lay audience and all are welcome, though older children and adults may enjoy it most. For questions, contact Hannah Hill at hhillwashoecounty.gov.
