Surface and Groundwater

Washoe County Surface and Ground water teams are responsible for multiple projects within the Tahoe Basin and Washoe County that are focused on protecting water quality within our communities. Professional engineers with experience in hydrology, public water projects, project management work regionally with agency professionals to prevent and mitigate physical, biological and chemical water pollution. 

The Central Truckee Meadows Remediation District, created by Nevada State statute and County ordinance in 1995, addresses the presence of tetrachloroethene (PCE) in groundwater in Reno and Sparks. PCE contamination is likely to have originated from multiple sources over time. Learn More »
Tahoe Water Quality Projects reduce sediment and nutrient loads in stormwater runoff that reaches Lake Tahoe. Projects prevent reductions in Lake water clarity and transparency. Projects include timber retaining walls, block walls, curb and gutter, storm drain pipe, detention/infiltration basins, sediment traps, rock lined ditches, check dams, plants and vegetation.
