This page contains information about benefits and changes for 2024. Information about 2023 benefits may be found on the main Retiree Health Benefits website.

Open Enrollment is an annual opportunity for retirees to review and make changes to their health benefits for the upcoming calendar year.

During Open Enrollment, you may:

  • Change your health plan
  • Add/remove dependents
  • Enroll dependents on the GAP Plan for Surest members (Current Gap coverage will continue)

 2024 Health Plans

Please review the 2024 health plans completely to make an informed decision for you and your family.

*IMPORTANT*

We are pleased to announce, effective January 1, 2024, United Healthcare's Surest Plan will be replacing the Prominence HMO Plan.
Effective January 1, 2024, Prominence Health Plan will no longer be contracted with Washoe County.
Surest, PPO and HDHP members have access to the United Healthcare Choice Plus national network.
This provides acces to all hospitals in our region to include Renown Regional Medical Center, St. Mary's Regional Medical Center, Northern Nevada Medical Center, Northern Nevada Sierra Medical Center, and Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center.
High Deductible Health Plan
  • Premium change
  • Annual family deductible will increase from $3,000 to $3,200 (IRS requirement)
PPO Plan
  • Premium change
Surest Plan
  • Primary Care Visit change from $30 to $10 - $65
  • Specialist Office Visit change from $50 to $10 - $65
  • Annual Individual Out-of-Pocket Maximum increase from $3,500 to $4,000
  • Annual Family Out-of-Pocket Maximum increase from $7,000 to $8,000
  • Emergency Room increase from $250 to $325
  • Urgent Care decrease from $40 to $30
  • MRI, PET, CT scans change from $225 to $75 - $500
  • Ambulance increase from $100 to $160
  • Outpatient Surgery charge from $500 to $20 - $2,500
Dental Plan
  • Premium change 
Vision Plan
  • No plan changes

Health Reimbursement Account
Washoe County will contribute annually $2,250 into a Health Reimbursement Account for those who are enrolled in the High Deductible Health Plan effective January 1, 2024. 

What do you need to do?

  1. Discover your options and learn about the different health plans offered at Washoe County: Plan on attending a Retiree Open Enrollment MeetingBenefits/Retiree Open Enrollment Meetings.
  2. Watch the Retiree Open Enrollment Overview here.
  3. Watch the Surest Overview Presentation here.
  4. Consider the costs associated with each plan: Review the premium rates for 2023 and the Medical Plan Comparisonfiles/Retiree-Benefit-Comparison-2024-FINAL.pdf.
  5. Compare plans by reviewing the Summary of Benefits for each plan offered: PPO, HDHP, Surest and Senior Care Plus Medicare Advantage Plan.
  6. Locate network providers on UMR's website (select the United Healthcare Choice Plus Network) for PPO and HDHP providers; Surest providers (utilize access code: FINV234); Surest pharmacy linkSenior Care Plan for Medicare Advantage providers.
  7. Dental providers are with the Guardian Dental network; Dental Plan Summary
  8. Vision benefits are with Vision Service Plan (VSP); Vision Plan Summary.
  9. LAST STEP - ACTION REQUIRED: If you plan to make a change to your health plan selection or add/remove dependents, you will need to complete a Retiree Health Insurance Enrollment Form. Return the form to Washoe County by mail to Washoe County: Attn: Health Benefits, 1001 East Ninth Street, Room A220, Reno, NV 89512 or by email to HR-HealthBenefits@washoecounty.gov needs to be received no later than Friday, November 17, 2023.
