Our Place

Unlocking a Better Tomorrow

Our Place Shelter, operated by the Washoe County Housing and Homeless Division, is a welcoming space for women, families, and senior women experiencing homelessness. The shelter offers temporary housing, essential services, and guidance in a safe, supportive environment where residents can meet basic needs and connect with resources that help them regain stability and work toward long-term independence.

Providing individualized case management, access to community programs, and tailored support, Our Place addresses the unique challenges faced by residents of Washoe County. Every person who comes through our doors is met with care, respect, and a clear path toward stability.

How We Support Women and Families Experiencing Homelessness

Support for Women: Women at Our Place have access to secure sleeping areas and private spaces to ensure safety and dignity. Staff provide guidance on accessing healthcare, behavioral health support, employment and education resources, and programs designed to promote self-sufficiency, personal safety, and empowerment.

Support for Families: Families with children benefit from family-centered services that maintain unity while addressing children’s needs. The shelter offers child-friendly spaces, meals for all ages, hygiene facilities, and structured routines. Case managers help caregivers connect to housing, parenting resources, education, and healthcare to support long-term family stability.

Support for Senior Women (Joy Home): Older adults have access to age-appropriate accommodations, daily living support, and healthcare coordination. Joy Home programs focus on maintaining independence, promoting well-being, and connecting seniors to permanent housing opportunities and community resources that enhance quality of life and safety.

Resource Navigation and Campus Connections: All residents are connected to the full range of Nevada Cares Campus programs, including the Resource Center, Safe Camp, Winter Overflow, and Emergency Shelter. Staff assist with navigating services, accessing community programs, and planning next steps toward long-term housing and stability.

Helping Residents Move Toward Stability

Through safe shelter, tailored services for women, families, and seniors, and connections to campus and community resources, Our Place empowers residents to move from crisis to self-sufficiency and build secure, independent lives.
