Cares Campus Rules & Information

For onsite rules and information, please see below:
+General
  • All persons and property entering the Nevada Cares Campus will be subject to search by security.
  • Weapons of any kind are prohibited. Please check weapons in with security for safeholding.
  • All areas on the Nevada Cares Campus are subject to video or security surveillance.
  • Photography, video and audio recordings are prohibited.
  • No smoking, vaping, or electronic cigarettes allowed in any building or on campus, except for designated outdoor smoking areas.
  • Pets are welcome but must be on a leash at all times. Please clean up after your pet.
+Security
  • All persons entering the campus must check in with security at the Welcome Center before entering.
  • All persons entering the Nevada Cares Campus are required to go through security screening.
  • Only Safe Camp participants are allowed past the gate to Safe Camp. If needed, please check in with Security.
  • Please follow the security officers’ instructions.
  • Failure to comply with the screening or with the officer's instructions may result in a request to leave the campus or denial of entry into the Nevada Cares Campus.
  • All areas on the Nevada Cares Campus are subject to video or security surveillance.
  • Prohibited Items
    • Weapons, tools, drugs or drug paraphernalia, or alcohol are strictly prohibited.
    • If these items are located, you will be asked to dispose of them.
  • Weapons
    • Legal weapons may be checked in for safekeeping.
    • Firearms, ammunition, explosives, flammables and illegal weapons are prohibited.
    • Checked items must be claimed when exiting the Nevada Cares Campus.
    • Property will be considered abandoned 7 days after a participant exits the Nevada Cares Campus and will be disposed of.
    • Property checked in by non-participants will only be held for 7 days, then will be considered abandoned and disposed of.
+Onsite Rules
  • Dining Room
    • If using electronic devices, please keep the volume muted or use headphones.
    • No laying or sleeping on tables or benches.
    • Please have your Clarity Card.
    • Shirts and shoes required.
    • Service pets are allowed. Service animals only.
    • No smoking or vaping.
    • No laying or sleeping on tables or benches.
    • Please dispose of your trash using the trash cans.
    • Place food trays in the provided bin.
  • Bicycle Storage
    • Park and lock bikes at the owner's risk.
    • Washoe County and its agents are not responsible for lost or stolen bikes or parts.
    • Must use personal locks in this area.
    • Only full bikes can be stored in this area.
    • Abandoned bikes will be disposed of 7 days after exiting the Nevada Cares Campus.
  • Basketball Court & Gym Equipment
    • Photography, video and audio recordings are prohibited.
    • Use the equipment and court at your own risk.
    • Personal items must be removed after use.
    • Washoe County and its agents are not responsible for lost or stolen items.
    • Washoe County and its agents are not responsible for injury while using the equipment or playing games in this area.
  • Pets
    • Pets are welcome but must be on a leash at all times.
    • Please clean up after your pet.
  • Fire Pit
    • Hours: 6:00am - 10:00pm
    • No cooking food or boiling water allowed.
    • No trash in the fire pit.
    • No burning of any items.
  • Laundry Room
    • Please check in with staff to use a washer or dryer.
    • Empty pockets before placing items in the machines.
    • Do not slam or force open washer and dryer doors.
    • Do not overfill the machines.
    • Personal clothing left in the laundry room for more than 24 hours will be disposed of.
    • Washoe County and its agents are not responsible for lost, damaged, or stolen items.
  • Property Room
    • Please see Emergency Shelter staff for property bin assignment.
    • One property bin is assigned per bunk bed.
    • Please have Clarity Card ready to access assigned property bin.
    • Property must fit inside property bin with the lid closed securely.
    • Weight Limit = 30 lbs.
    • Abandoned property will be disposed of within 7 days of exiting the Emergency Shelter.
  • Emergency Shelter
    • Quiet Hours: 10:00pm - 6:00am
    • If using electronic devices, please keep the volume muted or use headphones.
    • Photography, video and audio recordings are prohibited.
    • No food allowed at beds.
    • Personal property must be stored in designated areas.
    • Washoe County and its agents are not responsible for lost, damaged, or stolen items.
  • Services
    • Please have your Clarity Card available to check in for services: Welcome Center, Resource Center, Mail Room, Property Room, Meal Services.
  • Medical Services
    • Please knock to let us know you are here & have a seat in the waiting area.
    • Hours: Monday through Friday 8:30 am – 4:30 pm
  • Restrooms
    • Please do not flush hygiene products (pads, Depends, wipes).
    • Please do not flush trash.
    • Throw away trash and hygiene products in trash cans. Thank you.
    • Shower chairs available upon request.
  • Computer Use
    • Please check in with staff to use the computers or phones.
    • No social media allowed.
    • No adult content allowed.
    • No food or drink allowed when using the computers.
  • Waiting Area
    • If using electronic devices, please keep the volume muted or use headphones.
    • Shirts and shoes required.
    • No open food or drinks are allowed in this area.
    • No smoking or vaping.
  • Kitchen
    • Please be respectful of others and clean up after yourself.
    • All personal items must be removed.
  • Safe Camp Kitchen
    • Hours: 6:00 am – 10 pm
    • Food must be eaten in dining area.
    • Please be respectful and clean up after use.
    • All personal items must be removed.
  • Resource Center
    • Washoe County and its agents are not responsible for lost, damaged, or stolen property.
    • Do not leave personal property unattended.
    • Please take all personal property with you when leaving the Resource Center.
    • Please have your Clarity Card available to check in for services.
  • Lockers
    • Personal items must be removed by the end of the shift.
    • Personal items left in lockers for more than 48 hours will be disposed of.
    • Please see Emergency Shelter staff for locker assignment.
    • Washoe County and its agents are not responsible for lost, damaged, or stolen property.
  • Individual Pods
    • Per Nevada Cares Campus Policy, participants are not allowed to enter each other's pods. This includes leaning in across the threshold or sitting in the doorways of other people's pods.
    • Staff will physically enter every pod for a full inspection during pod checks.
    • Personal items must be stored under beds or on the wall shelves, and cannot be stored in front of the door or fire exit.
    • No perishable food items are allowed in pods.

Grievance and Appeal Form  

Washoe County is committed to providing quality services and care to individuals who utilize services or have applied for services, regardless of whether they received services, through Washoe County or a contracted provider. If for any reason a consumer feels that they have been treated inappropriately at either shelter/campus location, a grievance should be filed.

Consumers may file a grievance and/or an appeal if they choose to do so. A written description of the grievance procedure and a Grievance Form is provided upon admission to the Nevada Cares Campus Emergency shelter, Safe Camp, Resource Center, and Our Place.
