Renewal of Fictitious Firm Names (DBA)

Please note:
  1. DBA filing process cannot be completed online.
  2. Original signature(s) required for all DBA forms.
  3. DBA forms must be notarized by a Notary Public or a Washoe County Deputy Clerk.

If you are conducting business under a “Fictitious” business name, and that business name was filed with the County Clerk more than five years ago, your Fictitious Firm Name Certificate needs to be renewed as it has expired.

Pursuant to NRS 602.035, The Washoe County Board of County Commissioners has provided, by ordinance, that a certificate of fictitious firm name filed with the Washoe County Clerk expires 5 years after it has been filed.

Having current information on file in the County Clerk’s Office provides all citizens of Washoe County access to accurate ownership information for all businesses whose ownership is not reflected in their business name.

How do I renew my filing?

There are three options to renew your filing, detailed below:
In person at our office
Prefill and come in to our office (sole proprietors only)
Print, notarize, and mail

1) In person at our Office

It is the same process to renew your fictitious firm name certificate as the original filing.  The quickest and easiest way is for all owners to come into our office with their government issued photo IDs (must contain a photo and signature).  The cost for the filing is $25.00 and $0.50 per copy.  We act as your notary at no additional charge.  Our physical office location is at:

2) Prefill and come in to our office (sole proprietors only)

If you would like to prefill your information as a sole proprietor, select the “Prefill Here” option below.  The computer will provide you with a customer number.  All owners must come to our office with their government issued photo IDs (must contain a photo and signature).  By providing us with the computer-generated number you were issued, we are able to import your completed information, which speeds up the process at the counter.  The filing fee is $25.00 and $0.50 per copy.  We will act as your notary at no additional fee.  Our physical office is located at:

3) Print, Notarize, and Mail in Renewal Filing

You may print the necessary forms from the link below.  You must have your signature notarized, mail the original, up to three copies, a self-addressed stamped envelope, and the $25.00 filing fee (business check, cashier’s check or money order only.  We DO NOT ACCEPT PERSONAL CHECKS) to our mailing address at:

Change of Address

Please complete an Address Change Form by using the link below.  This keeps our records up-to-date and ensures you receive your “Notice of Renewal” postcard. There is no fee to update your address information.
