Profile: Jan Galassini

On September 8, 2020 Janis Galassini was appointed Washoe County Clerk by the Board of County Commissioners to fill the unexpired term of retiring County Clerk Nancy Parent, effective October 23.
Ms. Galassini began her career at the Washoe County Clerk’s Office in September of 2015 when she was appointed to the position of Chief Deputy by Ms. Parent. As Chief Deputy, Ms. Galassini oversaw and managed all aspects and operations of the Clerk’s Office on a daily basis.
Ms. Galassini has participated in two sessions of the Nevada Legislature on County Clerk issues, representing the Washoe County Clerk, the Nevada Association of County Clerks, and the County Fiscal Officers Association.
Prior to her public service career in Washoe County, Ms. Galassini spent 25 years in the private sector, working in the mining industry, banking, and manufacturing fields, as well as a few years in County Government in New Mexico. Ms. Galassini holds Bachelors’ degrees in Accounting and Finance from New Mexico State University and a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Western New Mexico University.
Ms. Galassini serves as Washoe County’s representative in the County Fiscal Officers Association (CFOA) and is on its Policies and Procedures Committee. She is also a member of the Nevada Association of County Clerks and Election Officials.
Ms. Galassini has organized and promoted the Washoe County employees charity drive for the past five years, benefiting organizations such as the Evelyn Mount Food Drive, Food Bank of Northern Nevada, and The Children’s Cancer Center at Renown.
Ms. Galassini has been a resident of Washoe County since 2009. She has two grown sons, Chris and Owen, who also reside in Washoe County. In her time away from the office, Jan enjoys all the outdoor activities this beautiful area provides and traveling around the world. As a military dependent growing up she has lived in almost a dozen U.S. states as well as in Iran, Turkey, South Korea, and Chile.
