Ryan Gustafson joined Washoe County in September 2017 and currently serves as Assistant County Manager. He began his career in the human services field in 2000, with a primary focus on child welfare and children’s mental health. 

Ryan holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Educational Psychology from the University of Nevada, Reno. His professional background includes experience with the Washoe County School District, the State of Nevada, and local psychiatric facilities. In 2007, he became a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and spent several years in private clinical practice. 

Before being appointed Assistant County Manager, Ryan served as Director of the Washoe County Human Services Agency, where he helped lead programs and partnerships that support individuals and families across the community. 

Ryan strongly believes in the importance of public service and giving back to the community. In his free time, he enjoys camping, hiking, and biking with his family.
