Nancy Leuenhagen is the Communications Director for Washoe County, bringing more than 30 years of experience in media and public communication to the role. A former television and radio journalist, Nancy uses her storytelling background to strengthen public awareness and trust in Washoe County government.

As head of the Communications Division within the Office of the County Manager, she oversees internal and external communications, crisis communications, the Washoe311 service center, media relations, broadcasting (WCTV), website management, social media, and digital branding.

Before joining Washoe County, Nancy served as Communications Manager and Public Information Officer for the Washoe County School District. Her journalism career began in the Midwest, where she spent nearly two decades as a news anchor, reporter, and radio talk-show host before relocating to Reno with her husband and family in 2004.

Nancy’s work has earned her numerous honors, including a Gold Telly Award for the 2024 documentary Home: Rebuilding Hope for Washoe’s Homeless, a Lifetime Achievement Award from the PRSA Sierra Nevada Chapter, the Women of Achievement award from the Nevada Women’s Fund, multiple PRSA Silver Spike Awards, and the YWCA Women of Distinction Award for Arts and Entertainment.

She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Broadcast Journalism from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale.
