About the County Manager
The County Manager is responsible for carrying out the policies and decisions made by the Board of County Commission. The Manager oversees all county departments, serves as a key contact for community and business groups, and ensures that the county operates smoothly. Whether it’s responding to emergencies, guiding strategic initiatives, or representing Washoe County at regional and state levels, the County Manager works to serve the best interests of all residents (see Washoe County Strategic Plan).
Roles reporting directly to the County Manager:
- Assistant County Managers: Responsible for supervising specific departments and initiatives, ensuring county services align with strategic goals.
- Assistant to the County Manager: Provides direct support to the County Manager by coordinating projects, preparing reports, managing schedules, and serving as a liaison between departments and leadership. Ensures smooth communication and helps advance organizational priorities.
- Chief Fiscal Officer: Manages budgeting, financial planning, and ensuring taxpayer funds are used responsibly.
- Chief Information Officer (Technology Services): Leads innovation and ensures technology infrastructure supports county operations and services.
- Communications Director: Keeps the public informed through media, social platforms, and outreach campaigns, while managing emergency communication efforts.
- Human Resources Director: Oversees recruitment, employee relations, benefits, and workforce planning to support county staff effectively.

Administration
We ensure the Board of County Commission has the information they need to make decisions and turn those decisions into action. We also manage Board of County Commission agendas, code violation hearings and support the planning, budgeting, and daily operations of the County Manager’s Office.
Behavioral Health
We collaborate with community partners to enhance mental and emotional well-being by improving policies and systems through regional initiatives aimed at achieving better health outcomes for Washoe County residents.

Community Reinvestment oversees Washoe County ARPA Community Grant Program which provides funding to local organizations that address community needs and challenges arising from the COVID-19 pandemic, focusing on recovery and long-term resilience.
We plan for and respond to emergencies like wildfires, floods, and more. Working with local, state, and federal agencies, we ensure our community is prepared and supported when it matters most.
Finance - Budget
We handle the County’s finances, ensuring every dollar is spent wisely. From creating yearly budgets to planning for long-term projects, we make sure funding is available for essential services and community improvements.
We represent Washoe County’s interests at all levels of government, making sure your voice is heard and advocating for decisions that benefit our community.
We monitor the efficiency and effectiveness of County programs, ensuring services are delivered smoothly and taxpayer dollars are used responsibly.
Manages our contracted security vendor to provide trained security personnel at County facilities, ensuring safe environments for staff and the public. Our Security Administrator works closely with departments to assess risks, implement safety protocols, oversee building access and monitoring systems, and respond to incidents. By maintaining strong partnerships with law enforcement and emergency services, we help protect County assets, employees, and visitors across all locations.
