Emergency Shelter

Providing Immediate Safety, Care, and Pathways to Stability

The Nevada Cares Campus Emergency Shelter, operated by the Washoe County Human Services Agency (HSA), provides immediate 24-hour shelter for adults experiencing homelessness. It offers a secure, supportive environment where individuals can rest, access essential services, and begin the path toward long-term stability.

Our team focuses on meeting critical needs such as shelter, food, hygiene, and personal safety while connecting residents with resources and guidance to rebuild independence and confidence.

How We Support Individuals Experiencing Homelessness

Emergency Shelter and Intake: The shelter serves as the first point of safety for individuals in crisis, offering immediate access to clean sleeping spaces, meals, showers, and restrooms. During severe weather or hazardous air conditions, expanded capacity ensures that no one is turned away.

Supportive Case Management: Dedicated staff and partner agencies work with residents to assess needs, connect to behavioral health services, and establish personalized plans for stability and housing.

Health and Well-Being Services: On-site support helps residents address physical and mental health needs through partnerships with local healthcare and behavioral health providers.

Pathways to Housing and Recovery: While the shelter provides immediate refuge, it also serves as a bridge to transitional and permanent housing. Staff assist residents in applying for housing programs, employment opportunities, and social supports that promote long-term success.

Building Safety and Stability, One Step at a Time

The Nevada Cares Campus Emergency Shelter represents the first critical step in Washoe County’s coordinated approach to ending homelessness. Every person who walks through its doors is met with compassion, respect, and the opportunity to start rebuilding their life.

By focusing on safety, dignity, and connection, the shelter helps individuals move beyond crisis and toward a more stable and hopeful future.
