A Sparks man has been sentenced to life in prison after he was found guilty by a jury of two counts of Sexual Assault with a Child Under 14 and one count of Lewdness with a Child Under 14. Dion Mason (dob 5/3/94) will be eligible for parole after 70 years.

Officers with the Sparks Police Department first responded to this case in November of 2021, following a report of a juvenile sexual assault. The victim, a 13-year-old girl, was known to the defendant and reported to her mother that Mason had sexually assaulted her multiple times.

During sentencing, Deputy District Attorney Amanda Sage recommended the life sentence for Mason, saying the Defendant's statements to officers showed he presented a continuing danger to children in the community as he suggested the abuse would have continued had the victim not reported his actions. The Honorable Judge Lynne Jones presided and imposed the sentence.
