Washoe County District Attorney Chris Hicks has announced that a Carson City man has been convicted on multiple drug related charges after a two day jury trial that took place in Washoe County District Court.  Based on the conviction, the man faces up to 21 years in prison.

Jose Jairo Martinez-Perez, 31 (DOB 8/8/84) from Carson City was convicted yesterday evening on the following felony counts;  Trafficking in a Controlled Substance; Possession of a Controlled Substance for Purpose of Sale; and, Possession of a Controlled Substance.

The case against Mr. Martinez- Perez began on January 27, 2016, when detectives from the Regional Crime Suppression Unit, a joint unit made up of detectives from both the Reno and Sparks Police Departments, stopped a vehicle driven by Martinez-Perez in a local parking lot. Detectives discovered a large quantity of methamphetamine on the driver’s seat and a scale with methamphetamine residue in the defendant’s pocket.

During trial Deputy District Attorney Adam Cate successfully argued that the large quantity of methamphetamine, together with the presence of the scale and other smaller bags, along with the lack of any pipes or needles, showed that the Defendant possessed the methamphetamine for the purpose of sale.

Sentencing in the case is set for September 8, 2016 in Department 4 of Washoe County District Court.
