Washoe County District Attorney Chris Hicks announced today that a Reno man has been sentenced to life in prison on a charge of promoting a sexual performance of a minor. The prosecutor in the case argued against the granting of probation and the sentence ensures that the defendant will spend at least ten years in prison before being eligible for parole.

Joshua Lugo Quintana 40, (DOB 10/23/75), was charged with one count of Promotion of a Sexual Performance of a Minor related to an investigation into charges of child pornography.  Quintana pled guilty to the charge in August and was sentenced on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 in Washoe County District Court.

The case began when detectives with the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force began an investigation into the illegal downloading of child pornography, eventually traced to Quintana.  Once identified as the suspect, a search of the defendant’s phone located video which depicted a female known to the defendant with various private parts intentionally exposed.  Detectives also seized several images and videos of explicit child pornography involving victims ranging in age from approximately 1 to 15 years old.

Quintana had a previous conviction of indecent exposure in 2002 stemming from an incident where he exposed himself to a 7 year old child.  Based on the sentence received today, Quintana will not be eligible for parole until he has served a minimum of 10 years in prison.

District Attorney Chris Hicks commented, “Protecting the next generation is vital to the welfare of our community and cases involving the victimization of children will continue to be a top priority of my office.”
