Nevada Legislature
Washoe County strives to work closely with the elected legislative members to promote and advocate for Washoe County's citizens.
The Nevada Legislature meets for 120 days during odd numbered years. 2025 marked the 83rd Session of the Nevada Legislature, which began on Monday, February 3, 2025 and ended on Monday, June 2, 2025.
During the Legislative Session there are regularly scheduled meetings for Senate and Assembly committees, as well as daily floor sessions in each house. These forums are where proposed legislation is heard and discussed for potential passage as new state laws. Washoe County engages with individual legislators and participates in committee meetings during the legislative session.
Throughout the course of the 83rd Legislative Session this page was updated regularly to include a list of bills that Washoe County was tracking. Washoe County Government Affairs staff also provided regular legislative updates to the Board of County Commissioners during all regular meetings of the Board held during the session.
The 20-month period between regular legislative sessions is referred to as the “interim”. Interim legislative committees are created to work on specific and often complex issues between sessions. Interim legislative committees receive reports and public comment, debate public policy issues, and formulate recommendations for new legislation in the next legislative session. Washoe County monitors and engages with these interim committees to ensure that the needs of our organization and our citizens are being considered.
Washoe County also participates in Special Sessions of the Legislature when they are called.
