Position Title: Interpreter/Clerk
Salary Range: $32.42 – $42.14 per hour (includes COLA and PERS adjustments)
Benefits Package: Comprehensive benefit package includes vacation and sick leave accrual; medical, dental, vision and life insurance; 12 paid holidays; State of Nevada PERS retirement; longevity/incentive pay qualification after 5 years.
Work Schedule: Part-time, 32 hours/week (currently Monday–Thursday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM; subject to change)

Definition
Under the general supervision of the Judge, and in her absence, the Court Administrator or Court Clerk, the Interpreter/Clerk performs a range of clerical and Spanish-English interpretive duties. Primary responsibilities focus on civil and citation cases but may also include criminal case support.
Distinguishing Characteristics
The Interpreter/Clerk serves as the primary administrative support for the Judge and interacts regularly with court staff, legal professionals, government agencies, and the public. The position requires the ability to handle complex legal clerical duties, interpret in a formal courtroom setting and at the counter, manage multiple priorities under pressure, and maintain professionalism, accuracy, and confidentiality at all times.
Supervision Exercised
This position does not exercise supervision over other employees.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide in-person, video, and phone interpretation in Spanish for non-English-speaking parties.
- Assist the public by explaining court procedures, policies, and resources.
- Perform data entry and maintenance in the Court’s Case Management System for citation, civil, and criminal cases.
- Prepare and process legal documents, including judgments, warrants, and court orders.
- Review and file legal documents, ensuring accuracy and compliance with format and content requirements.
- Manage case calendaring, prepare files for hearings, and verify completeness of case records.
- Handle evidence custody and certify records as needed.
- Maintain and organize electronic and physical case files.
- Collect and record fines, fees, and other court payments.
- Support cross-training efforts and perform duties of other clerks when required.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Two (2) years of administrative or clerical experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience as determined by IJC Administration.
- Must be bilingual in Spanish and English.
Knowledge of:
- Court procedures and functions.
- Legal and court terminology.
- State and federal laws, codes, and regulations related to court operations.
- Court-related software, information systems, and modern office equipment.
- Bilingual language skills including advanced written and spoken English and Spanish (grammar, spelling, and punctuation).
Skill in:
- Interpreting and translating legal and court-related content between English and Spanish.
- Providing excellent customer service in a legal setting.
- Preparing, reviewing, and filing complex legal documents.
- Managing time-sensitive tasks accurately under pressure.
- Operating computers and related equipment for data entry and document processing.
Ability to:
- Learn and apply court policies, procedures, and terminology.
- Analyze problems and make informed decisions.
- Communicate clearly and professionally, both orally and in writing, in both English and Spanish.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards.
- Lift and move items up to 25 lbs.; sit for extended periods; use office equipment.
Licenses/Certifications
None required.
Additional Requirements
- Applicants must be fluent in both Spanish and English, with the ability to interpret and translate legal terminology in both languages in courtroom, counter, and phone settings.
- Must adhere to the Model Code of Conduct for Judicial Employees in the State of Nevada.
- Must pass a background check and be willing to submit fingerprints.
