Board of Equalization
The Washoe County Board of Commissioners is seeking many applicants from the community to serve on this board.
This Board is charged with hearing appeals filed by property owners who do not agree with the value placed on their property for tax purposes by the County Assessor (NAC 361.624).

Membership

This Board is seeking applicants to fill the following vacancies:
  • Two (2) regular members with terms that will begin in January 2027 and are set to expire on December 31, 2030.
  • One (1) alternate member with a term that will begin in January 2027 and is set to expire on December 31, 2027.

Time Commitment

The County Board hearings are held from mid-January through February, and one day in April each year.

Members are required to appear in person. Virtual participation is not allowed.

Washoe County Deferred Compensation Committee (DCC)
The DCC Committee is seeking a retiree to serve on this board.
The Deferred Compensation Committee (DCC) was created under NRS 287.440 to assist Washoe County with administering the deferred compensation programs offered under 26 U.S.C. 401(a) and 457. A resolution was passed on October 23, 2018, to replace the position held with the Washoe County District Attorney Investigators’ Association with a retired Washoe County employee.

Membership

The Appointee must be a Washoe County retiree participating in the Washoe County Deferred Compensation 457(b) Plan, Washoe County 401(a) Plan, or both. The appointment term is two years and begins on the date of the appointment.


Time Commitment

The Board convenes on a quarterly basis, and meetings are open to the general public.

Washoe County Planning Commission
The Washoe County Board of Commissioners is seeking applicants to serve on this board.
The Planning Commission hears and decides on applications for abandonments, certain special use permits, and subdivisions; the Commission also makes recommendations concerning the County’s Master Plan, regulatory zone changes, and development code amendments which regulate land use in Washoe County.

Membership

This Board is seeking applicants to fill the following seats:
  • District 1 Seat - One (1) regular member, for a term beginning July 1, 2026, and ending June 30, 2030. Applicants must reside within Commission District 1 in unincorporated Washoe County and be registered to vote (this requirement may be waived by the Washoe County Board of Commissioner).
  • At Large (North of the River Seat) - One (1) regular member for the North of the River seat, for a term beginning July 1, 2026, and ending June 30, 2030. Applicants must reside within the unincorporated portion of Washoe County north of the Truckee River and be registered to vote (this requirement may be waived by the Washoe County Board of Commissioners).

Time Commitment

The Planning Commission meets the first Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. in the Washoe County Commission Chambers. Meetings typically last two to three hours. Special meetings may be called by the Chair.

Planning Commission members receive $80 per meeting attended.
