Children's Services
Providing Safety, Support, and Opportunity for Children and Families
The Washoe County Human Services Agency (HSA) Children’s Services Division is dedicated to protecting children, strengthening families, and building resilient communities. Every day, we work to ensure that every child has the chance to grow up in a safe, stable, and nurturing environment.
Our Vision and Mission
We envision a community where every child is safe, supported, and able to thrive. We are committed to helping children and families overcome challenges, access resources, and build lasting opportunities for growth and well-being.
Our mission is to provide both direct services and supportive programs that protect children, empower families, and strengthen communities. By combining immediate protection with long-term support, we work to ensure children grow up in stable, nurturing environments and families have the guidance and resources they need to succeed.
How We Support Children and Families
Protection and Safety: Investigate reports of abuse or neglect, provide temporary foster care, and find permanent, caring placements when children cannot safely remain at home.
Family Support and Guidance: Work with relatives, foster and adoptive parents, mentors, schools, and community partners to provide resources, guidance, and encouragement to help families thrive.
Community Partnerships: Collaborate with Family Court, law enforcement, the District Attorney’s Office, schools, and local organizations to ensure children are safe and families are supported.
Youth Development and Opportunity: Connect children with mentors, educational programs, and community resources that foster resilience, growth, and success.
Through innovative programs, comprehensive resources, and meaningful connections, Children’s Services focuses on both immediate safety and long-term well-being, helping every child reach their full potential and every family build a stronger future.
Building Stronger Families, Together
Children’s Services works hand in hand with families, community partners, and local organizations to create a safer, more supportive Washoe County. Through collaboration, innovative programs, and compassionate care, we ensure children have the stability, guidance, and opportunities they need to thrive.
Our commitment extends beyond immediate protection, we focus on long-term well-being, helping families grow stronger, build resilience, and create brighter futures. Every volunteer, mentor, and community member plays a vital role in shaping a network of care that uplifts children, empowers families, and strengthens our entire community.
