Remote Appearances via Zoom
Virtual Criminal and Traffic Arraignment Calendar Sessions
IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU READ, UNDERSTAND, AND FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS. FAILURE TO DO SO MAY RESULT IN YOUR INABILITY TO PARTICIPATE.
An Arraignment is your initial appearance before the Judge. You will receive a copy of the Criminal Complaint and/or Citation which will indicate the charges made against you, you will be advised of your constitutional rights, and the Court will confirm if your name is correctly spelled on the Criminal Complaint and/or Citation.
In response to the concerns surrounding the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus), the Reno Justice Court Courthouse is currently closed to the public. If you were arrested or cited and are scheduled for a Criminal or Traffic Arraignment, please contact the Court at (775) 325-6500 or RJCCriminal@washoecounty.gov or RJCCitations@washoecounty.gov and a member of our staff would be happy to discuss the options listed below with you.
If Defendant plans to enter a Not Guilty Plea on a Misdemeanor charge or is being charged with a Gross Misdemeanor or Felony, he or she has the option to fill out a “Waiver of Arraignment” form prior to hearing. If Defendant waives their Arraignment, they do NOT have to appear before a Judge. Defendant will be set for a Pre-Trial or MSC which is a meeting between Defendant, Defendant’s Attorney, and Deputy District Attorney to see if the matter can be resolved. If the matter is not resolved, it will be set for a Trial or Preliminary Hearing at that time.
If Defendant would like to appear before a Judge, all Court Hearings are currently being conducted using the Zoom platform. If a Defendant wants to hold their hearing via Zoom, they can opt-in for a virtual hearing.
The out of custody Criminal Arraignments are currently being held Monday through Friday at 10:00 A.M.
The out of custody Traffic Arraignments are currently being held Monday through Friday at 8:30 A.M.
A Court Clerk will email Defendant a video explaining your rights which must be viewed prior to the hearing. Defendant will also receive their Criminal Complaint and/or Citation accompanied with a Zoom link for the hearing. You MUST have Criminal Complaint and/or Citation with you at that time of hearing. The Virtual Criminal Arraignment session will open approximately fifteen (15) mins prior to hearing time and Defendants may login at that time.
Before appearing you will need to view the appropriate video for your case type, you will be asked if you have done so by the clerk or judge during the session.
