The Washoe County District Attorney’s Office has secured a guilty verdict in a robbery case where the victim is an older person.

On September 6, 2022, deputies with the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) responded to a report of a burglary in the Virginia Foothills area. The victim, an 87-year-old woman, told law enforcement that after she had arrived home that evening, a man ran towards her and demanded money. Video surveillance from the victim’s home security camera caught the suspect, later identified as 32-year-old Michael Bossie (dob 10/10/90), holding the victim’s purse and dragging her to the ground. Bossie then fled the scene in a car.

While investigating, deputies determined that Bossie had followed the victim home from the Atlantis casino. Deputies went to the casino, where they were able to locate the car that had followed the victim home and initiated a traffic stop. After an approved search of the car, deputies found clothing items that matched the clothing items of the suspect that committed the robbery.

During the two-day trial, Deputy District Attorneys Matthew Merrill and Hillary Bunker presented evidence from the Atlantis Casino and the home security camera, as well as several witnesses testimony, all substantiating that Bossie had robbed the victim.

The Honorable Judge Simons presided over the trial. Sentencing is set for June 22nd, 2023.
