Washoe County confirms final results of 2020 General Election
Election highlighted by record-breaking voter turnout

The Washoe County Board of County Commissioners approved the Canvass of the Vote in the 2020 General Election, certifying that the election results are final.

The 2020 General Election was highlighted by record-breaking voter turnout and the largest volume of mail-in ballots in a Washoe County election to date. Voter turnout topped 83 percent, and the majority of votes, 52.35 percent, were cast by mail.

“I want to thank the hundreds of poll workers who worked so hard to make this election run smoothly,” County Manager Eric Brown said. “This is truly democracy at work, and we couldn’t have done this without them. It’s been an incredible effort from so many in our community.”

Washoe County introduced an interactive sample ballot this election and greatly reduced long lines at polling places with its real-time Wait Times App. It also offered a daily public livestream video from the election office that received national media attention and thousands of viewers each day, at one point surpassing 15,000 viewers.

The presentation and approval of the canvass by the commissioners is the final step in the county’s election process. The official results will be sent to the Nevada Secretary of State to be certified with other county results in Nevada.
