Reno, Nev. March 11, 2020. Washoe County is warning citizens about a scam involving letters and documents being mailed to citizens that appear to be coming from Washoe County, with some depicting what resembles a Census logo.

Citizens report that they are receiving a letter via mail claiming Washoe County Public Judgement Records is demanding payment. There is no such Washoe County department. The notices mention Federal Tax Authorities, and threaten a variety of actions, including seizure of property, garnishing wages and bank accounts, and seizing Social Security benefits.

Citizens are encouraged to verify any Washoe County correspondence with the department that sent it, or Washoe 311 by dialing 3-1-1, and can always check their property tax status online at www.washoecounty.us/treas or call the Treasurer’s Office at 775-328-2510.
