Slaughter-John-2016.jpgReno, Nev. April 11, 2019. After 32 years serving the Washoe County community, John Slaughter, Washoe County Manager, announces his retirement.

“Leaving Washoe County is not a decision I come to lightly,” says Slaughter. “This decision comes only after much thought and many discussions with my family. I have come to recognize that time spent with family is not indefinite and after more than 32 years with this great organization, I look forward to devoting time to family and friends.”

Slaughter has spent his entire professional career at Washoe County where he has served as the county’s top executive in the role of County Manager for the last five years, appointed by the Board of County Commissioners on November 12, 2013. Since coming to Washoe County in 1986, Slaughter has worked as a Land Use Planner, the county’s Strategic Planning Manager, and as the Director of Management Services. He also represented Washoe County at the Nevada Legislature from 2001-2013.

Slaughter’s last day serving as Washoe County Manager will be June 14, 2019.
