Washoe County Health District WIC offices open through federal shutdown
Next WIC benefits package issued February 1

RENO, NV – Although many recipients of public health benefits are concerned about the impact of the federal government shutdown, according to local health officials there is currently no impact on the services delivered by the WIC Program.  At this time, all WIC families can still continue to use their WIC cards at WIC authorized stores and should continue to attend their appointments. The next WIC benefits package will be issued on February 1, 2019.

The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children, better known as WIC, provides supplemental foods, health care referrals, nutrition education, and breastfeeding promotion and support to low-income pregnant, breastfeeding, and non-breastfeeding postpartum women, and to infants and children up to age five who are found to be at nutritional risk.

WIC services are available to Nevadans that meet the following:

1. Pregnant, Postpartum (up to 6 months), breastfeeding (up to 1 year) woman, or an infant or child up to 5 years of age, and,
2. Income guidelines.

A family of 4 that makes less than $46,435 a year qualifies for WIC. Income levels are available for all size households at https://www.washoecounty.us/health/programs-and-services/cchs/wic.php Federal employees that have been impacted by the shutdown may currently meet the income guidelines and should contact the WIC clinic for more information.
