Reno, Nevada. May 30, 2018. Glenn Duncan S.T.E.M. Academy students will have the opportunity to explore ways to help the community and potential career opportunities this Thursday.

Who: Glenn Duncan S.T.E.M. Academy, Washoe County and partners

What: Community Helper Day – live presentations and guests including Animal Services, Sheriff’s Office, Reno Fire, Urban Roots, Waste Management and a drone demo, to name a few.

Where: Glenn Duncan S.T.E.M. Academy, 1200 Montello St., Reno, 89512

When: Thursday, May 31, 2018, at 8:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Washoe County and Glenn Duncan will kick off the day with an assembly, followed by students rotating through a variety of ways to help the community and potential future careers by exploring Washoe County Regional Animal Services, Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, Reno Fire Department, Washoe County Library, Washoe County Emergency Management, Waste Management, Air Quality, Washoe County Community Services (water truck demo), Urban Roots, and SoSu TV (drone demo).

Washoe County has been a proud Partner in Education with Glenn Duncan Elementary since 2013. Since that time, Washoe County staff has provided support for Glenn Duncan initiatives, such as mentoring opportunities, reading programs and funding to revamp the Glenn Duncan community garden. Thursday, May 31 from 8:30 a.m.-12 p.m., marks the second Washoe County-sponsored “Community Helper Day”.
