Keep It Clean - Know the Code Burn Code ends
Only one Red Burn Code day recorded this season
RENO, NV – The annual Keep It Clean – Know the Code Burn Code Program, which Washoe County Health District Air Quality Management (AQM) uses to inform area residents whether or not using their woodstoves, pellet stoves, or fireplaces is allowed, ended on February 28. The program runs annually from the first day of November through the last day of February.
During the 2017/18 Know the Code Program, AQM notified Washoe County residents of one Red, 16 Yellow, and 103 Green Burn Code days. In general, this season’s air quality was good with only six additional Yellow Burn Code days more than last year according to health officials. “We thank all of our partners, such as the National Weather Service, broadcast and print media, for providing timely air quality advisories and the public for following our advice,” said District Health Officer Kevin Dick. “It’s important that everyone recognizes the need to reduce wood burning during our Yellow Code days to avoid Red Burn Code days and keep our air clean and healthy,” Dick added.
