The Washoe County District Attorney’s Office has announced that a habitual criminal recently convicted on burglary charges has been sentenced to 25 years in prison.  The case involved multiple thefts by a defendant with a lengthy criminal history that contains 9 prior felony convictions for possession of stolen property, theft, forgery charges and possession of a controlled substance. Based on the above criminal record, this office sought and received habitual criminal status for sentencing purposes.

Charlotte Marie Hodges, 37, from Washoe County was sentenced to 25 years in prison last week by Judge Kathleen Drakulich after having pled guilty in four separate cases involving charges of Burglary, Possession of Stolen Property Value $3500 or More, Possession of Credit Cards Without Consent and Attempted Use of Stolen Credit Card. The sentence ensures that the defendant will serve a minimum of 10 years in prison before parole eligibility begins.

The prosecution against Hodges began in February when Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Detectives were conducting an investigation into reports of mail theft and vehicle burglaries. Based on the investigation, detectives determined that Hodges had been captured on surveillance cameras taking property from numerous parked vehicles and mailboxes across the community. Evidence was also obtained of Hodges attempting to use credit and debit cards not belonging to her. Hodges was located and arrested.  When found, she was in possession of stolen property including computer equipment.  The items found were linked to theft cases across Washoe County and the neighboring counties of Douglas, Carson and areas of Northern California.

At sentencing, Deputy District Attorney Carrie Morton argued that the defendant’s latest crime spree was linked to over 100 victims and that her criminal conduct over the past 17 years has earned habitual criminal status.
