Reno, Nev. Nov. 13, 2017. Judge Frances Doherty and the Second Judicial District Court, with the support of the State Bar of Nevada, Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada, and National Resource Center for Supported Decision-Making, are sponsoring a statewide outreach event on November 28 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Nationally recognized speaker, Jonathan Martinis, Esq., Senior Director of Law and Policy at the Burton Blatt Institute, will keynote the event, which includes a panel of disability and legal professionals from a variety of fields. Mr. Martinis works nationally and internationally to ensure people with disabilities and older adults have access to the supports they want and need to live full, independent, and inclusive lives.  Martinis has spoken to thousands of individuals, families, and professionals about an individual’s right to make choices and direct their own lives.

“It is important for Nevadans to have a substantive conversation about supported decision-making so that those of us who may be disabled or aged, has the possibility of leading an independent life, with the support of loved ones or advocates,” explained Judge Doherty.
