Man Found Guilty in August of 2015 Stabbing Sentenced to 55 Years in Prison

The Washoe County District Attorney’s Office has announced that a conviction on an attempted murder charge has resulted in a sentence of 55 years in prison. The prosecution also included burglary and felony battery causing substantial bodily harm charges that stemmed from a 2015 stabbing in East Reno, which severely injured a 44 year old Reno man. The sentence ensures that the defendant must serve a minimum of 19.5 years in prison before parole eligibility begins.   

Charles Buddy Flarida, 54, from Reno, was convicted in August on one count of Attempted Murder with a Deadly Weapon, one count of Burglary with a Deadly Weapon and one count of Battery with a Deadly Weapon Causing Substantial Bodily Harm.  He was accused of having broken into the home of an acquaintance of his girlfriend and stabbing the man while he slept.  The victim suffered numerous life threatening stab wounds, including three to his back, and was hospitalized for a month. The Reno Police Department Robbery Homicide Unit investigated the case and quickly identified Flarida as the suspect and as a fugitive from another state wanted on drug charges. Detectives also determined that Flarida had fled the area shortly after the stabbing and submitted a warrant request to this office. A warrant was issued and Flarida was eventually located in Elk Grove, California. He was extradited back to Nevada last June and the case proceeded to trial.

Deputy District Attorney Michael Bolenbaker presented evidence during sentencing that detailed how the defendant violated the privacy of the victim’s home in order to attack him while he was asleep in his own bed affecting the victim physically, mentally, and emotionally.
