Service animal education available at Rancho San Rafael Pack the Park event September 23
Washoe County Health District to host educational outreach booth at upcoming "Pack the Park" theme event.

Reno, NV – The Washoe County Health District Environmental Health Services Division will be providing information about the potential health risks associated with animals inside food establishments and information about the differences between service animals, therapy animals, and companion animals at the upcoming Pack the Park event set for 9am – Noon, on September 23, 2017, at Rancho San Rafael Park in Reno. Pack the Park is a community celebration of volunteerism, civic engagement, and leadership, featuring the 4th Annual DogFest Walk n' Roll Reno.

“The opportunity to educate the community about the differences between service animals, therapy animals, and companion animals at an activity that attracts dog owners is a win-win for everyone,” said Washoe County District Health Officer Kevin Dick. “There has been a lot of attention drawn to health regulations regarding animals in food establishments, bars, and grocery stores recently. This provides the Health District another opportunity to educate residents on the regulations, how they apply, and why they’re important to keep people safe.” The 4th Annual DogFest Walk n' Roll Reno is an annual philanthropic event to raise funds and awareness for Canine Companions for Independence, a non-profit organization that enhances the lives of people with disabilities by providing highly trained assistance dogs and ongoing support to ensure quality partnerships. DogFest features fun dog-friendly activities, food and entertainment.

Other activities at Pack the Park will include:

  • Non-Profit Information Fair: Learn about additional organizations in your community that are seeking people to get involved. Several groups working on many different causes will be on hand to interest you in volunteer activities.
  • Student Organization Showcase: Student organizations are expected to showcase their work. See all the great things student organizations are doing on campus and off.
  • Family-friendly activities: There will be bounce houses and playground activities for the kids. Other activities include carnival games and face-painting.
