Guilty Verdict Secured
WCDA Announces Outcome of 2015 Attempted Murder Stabbing Case

The Washoe County District Attorney’s Office has announced that a guilty verdict has been secured in an attempted murder prosecution that also included burglary and felony battery causing substantial bodily harm charges. The case stemmed from a 2015 stabbing in East Reno that severely injured a 44 year old Reno man, who was attacked while he slept in his bedroom. The defendant will be sentenced on November 1, 2017 and faces up to 70 year in prison.

 

Charles Buddy Flarida, 54, from Reno, was found guilty Wednesday evening on one count of Attempted Murder with a Deadly Weapon, one count of Burglary with a Deadly Weapon and one count of Battery with a Deadly Weapon Causing Substantial Bodily Harm in District Court after a three day trial.  Flarida was accused of having broken into the home of an acquaintance of his girlfriend and stabbing the man while he slept.  The victim suffered numerous life threatening stab wounds, including three to his back, and was hospitalized for a month. The Reno Police Department Robbery Homicide Unit (RHU) investigated the case and quickly identified Flarida as the suspect and as a fugitive from another state wanted for drug charges. Detectives also determined that Flarida had fled the area shortly after the stabbing and submitted a warrant request to this office. A warrant was issued and Flarida was eventually located in Elk Grove, California. He was extradited back to Nevada last June and the case proceeded to trial.

 

During trial, Deputy District Attorney Michael Bolenbaker presented evidence detailing how Flarida had broken into the victim’s home and attacked him in his sleep after finding text messages from the victim on his girlfriend’s phone.
