Reno, Nevada. Feb. 21, 2017. The following report highlights several important agenda items from the Washoe County Board of Commissioners meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2017.

At Tuesday’s Board of County Commissioners (BCC) meeting, Washoe County Commissioners proclaimed their heartfelt gratitude to the hundreds of staff and volunteers for their tremendous effort in responding to the 2016 Little Valley Fire and the January 2017 flooding.

The region relied upon a multi-tiered emergency response system to protect the lives and property of citizens during these two emergencies. The system is made up of dedicated volunteers from agencies throughout the region, including:

  • American Red Cross
  • Washoe County Citizen Corps
  • Volunteer Organizations Active in Disasters
  • Other member agencies include Salvation Army, LDS Helping Hands, Team Rubicon, Christian Aid Ministries, 2-1-1 Public Call Takers and Amateur Radio Emergency Services.

The County Commission expressed its most sincere gratitude to the dozens of agencies for working together on behalf of the community during two separate weather crisis events.

Chair Bob Lucey said, “I would also like to thank Governor Sandoval and the State for all they did to support us by working with FEMA on federal assistance. I want to thank my follow Commissioners and the County Manger’s Office for the work they exerted beyond the normal standards during these regional crisis events.”
