Washoe County and Nevada Division of Forestry team up for Sanitation Tree Removal program

Reno, Nevada. Feb. 16, 2017. Washoe County Community Services Department and Nevada Division of Forestry (NDF) are teaming up to provide a Sanitation Tree Removal program at Washoe County’s Regional Archery Facility. Staff from Parks and NDF are currently scouring more than 100 acres of stressed, dying and dead trees to remove.
“The goal is to provide for long-term stand health and forest health by reducing tree competition, which provides more available nutrients, water, and sunlight for the remaining trees,” said Nevada Division of Forestry Gene Phillips.
During the winter of 2016, NDF cut and chipped approximately 40 acres of stressed and dying trees.
Chipping on-site will not only save time but also provide much-needed erosion control.
Funding for the project is provided by the NDF Forest Health Program, a United States Forest Service 2012 & 2013 Western Bark Beetle Grant.
