The Washoe County District Attorney’s Office obtained a guilty verdict against a Reno man on a charge of possession of a stolen motor vehicle after a two day trail held in district court earlier this week. The conviction carries a potential prison term of up to 10 years in prison and sentencing will take place in November.

Jose Luis Roque, 48 (DOB 11/2/66), from Reno was charged with one count of possession of a stolen motor vehicle in April of this year. Roque was found guilty on September 29, 2015 after a two day jury trial in Washoe County District Court.  The case began on April 7, 2015 when the Reno Police Department responded to a report of a stolen vehicle. The report was made by an elderly female patron of the Peppermill casino who told police her keys had been lost or taken from a basket attached to her walker.  Less than 24 hours later, a Reno patrol unit located the woman’s stolen white Ford Escort in the parking lot of an apartment complex on Brinkby Lane in Reno, within a mile from where the vehicle had been reported stolen.  A short time later, Roque was seen getting into the vehicle and driving from the area.  The vehicle was stopped and based on the subsequent investigation, Roque was arrested.

Sentencing is set for November 18, 2015 in Department 8 of Washoe County District Court.  Roque faces a possible sentence of from 1-10 years in prison.
