Child Sex Predator Pleads Guilty
WASHOE COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY’S OFFICE ANNOUNCES CHILD SEX PREDATOR TO RECEIVE TWO LIFE SENTENCES

September 3, 2015

Reno, Nevada

Washoe County District Attorney Chris Hicks announced today that on September 2, 2015, Jose Guardado, 47 from Sparks (DOB 12/1/67) pled guilty to two Category A felonies related to sexual offenses he committed against a child.  Both felonies carry mandatory life sentences. Guardado will not be eligible for parole until he has served at least 35 years in the Nevada State Prison.  Guardado will be sentenced on October 21, 2015 by the Honorable Lynne K. Simons of the Washoe County District Court.

Guardado walked into the Sparks Police Department on August 13, 2014 and confessed to sexually abusing a child when she was between the ages of 7 to 13. Law enforcement officials subsequently identified and interviewed the victim, who detailed the years of sexual abuse by Guardado.  He was arrested shortly thereafter.

A multi-disciplinary team coordinated through the Washoe County Child Advocacy Center investigated the case. The team included lead detectives with the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, detectives from the Sparks Police Department and authorities with the Washoe County Child Abuse Response and Evaluation (CARES) team, Washoe County Social Services, and the Washoe County District Attorney’s Office.

The Washoe County Child Advocacy Center opened June 13, 2014. Its mission is to ensure the health and safety of a child through a neutral, child-centered environment. The new center is designed to minimize trauma and provide advocacy for the child and non-offending caregivers and to support effective investigations. To date, over 500 child victim interviews have taken place at the center.
