Nevada Cares Campus Emergency Shelter
The Nevada Cares Campus emergency shelter was opened May 2021 in Reno, Nevada. The three entities in our community, City of Reno, City of Sparks, and Washoe County agreed to transfer the purview of the Nevada Cares Campus emergency shelter and the Northern Nevada Continuum of Care (CoC) from the City of Reno to Washoe County, effective September 1, 2021.
The Nevada Cares Campus emergency shelter is opened and provides emergency shelter for 600 plus individuals, admitting men and couples. Single women who arrive are referred to Our Place, the local women and family shelter. In the event Our Place is full, women are welcomed at the Nevada Cares Campus emergency shelter.
While the emergency shelter is opened and operating, the long term plan for the campus continues in the development phase. The layout, budget and construction timeline are currently still being established. Construction is anticipated to start early 2022. Details will be shared on this webpage.
