Disposing of grass clippings, shrubs, and household goods on public or private lands is ILLEGAL. Violators may be subject to a $1,000 fine and/or six months in jail.

Northern Nevada Public Health, U.S. Forest Service, Sheriff's Department, and Bureau of Land Management conduct routine surveillances to apprehend any illegal dumpers.

Deserts and canyons are not the place to dispose of yard waste, household goods and other debris. Lockwood Landfill will accept yard waste and other bulky items such as furniture and appliances any day of the week.  Waste Management offers four free trips per year if account is in good standing.

Use of local transfer stations is also recommended. Transfer stations accept everything from household debris to furniture to yard waste. Consult the yellow pages for private haulers who will remove waste and debris from your property.
